  1. Hartley kept them wrapped in oiled cloth, tucked at the back of a deep drawer, in amongst green twine and wooden pegs and loose change. Hartley peeled back the cloth, as if to show treasure.
    Just secateurs. Cold black metal, beak like a bird, mouth open, a temptation to fingers.
