Fifty word photo-story - 7

Lucy keeps a china pony by her bed. She whispers how she knows it enjoys galloping when she’s asleep and every morning she sighs, washing it carefully to get rid of any trace of mud. Eventually, she drops it. Opens her hands to watch how fast it can really go.

They said he was a dark horse. But things are only dark close up. Behind him, there were layers of landscape and the further away they were, the more faded they became. Standing right in front of you like that, his strong shoulders and flaring nostrils were quite alarmingly mesmerising.

Brewster clacked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, like the click of fingers, a summons sent out across the field. And Brewster snorted like an animal, stamped his feet on the ground, and shook his head, till at last curiosity brought the horse slow and slow to him.

Diamond eyes, I must be tripping, the endless trollop from earth to hoof summons thunder. Your power-strikes to the ground broaden what's below and quicken hearts. Time is being stretched so that the terra underneath is slowly pulled apart. We can't ride like this forever, but please don't stop.
