Simone doesn’t swim like other people. At the swimming pool, everyone else sticks to straight lengths, but Simone goes round in circles. The others shout as she bumps into them. She’s not sure who is the most wound up – her or them, but at least she’ll stop. They won’t.

Marion walked like a mermaid, waddling down the pavement, her thighs wet and slippery, calves scaly and rough like turkey legs. She bought a new pair of trousers last week, shimmering and snug fitting. But such treats were just for herself. No man would ever get between her legs again.d
