(Not) in the post...

It's seeing a notice like this today, sellotaped onto a village postbox, that reminds me how much I like living in the country. Can you imagine how the conversation might go? Honestly, the cheque IS in the post, it's just that there are birds nesting and we won't be able to open the postbox until they hatch...

Hotel Savoy by JOSEPH Roth. Thought there was a new Philip Roth I hadn't heard of, possibly a new book, and got all excited.

Quite right, anonymous. And you've reminded me I need to update that sidebar too. I have more than a few books I need to add. Thanks.

Hi Sarah,
I've just lost an entire post to your site. Grrrr. I tried to sign in earlier but probably due to my connection, I was unable to.

I have just come across your blog. I was reading Scott's blog, being an old mucker of mine from Waterstone's HO days, and thought your name sounded familiar. I came through to your blog from his site and thought the pic looked familiar. I checked the Arvon Foundation site and found that I am registered on your course in July. Hope that doesn't sound to disarming in any way (I'm sure Scott will vouch for my sanity). I was going to buy your collection anyway but will do so now with added engagement. Look forward to the course and hope that I have something worthy to bring by then.

Q: I was unsure of entering my gmail password, being unsure of protocols and security etc. Why do I need to do this and will be it be accessible to others ?

BTW, I posted the Philip / Henry Roth comment.

Regards,
Tom (thomconnor@googlemail.com)

Some birds once nested in a half-folded deckchair in my father's shed...when the babes appeared, they often visited whoever sat in the sun in THEIR chair...
That Autumn, my father made QUITE sure that the chair was left in the shed half open again...

Hi Tom, looking forward to seeing you in July. It should be a good week. And I'm aware of the hoops you need to go through to add comments - most people just seem to email me - but am not sure how to change it. I don't think your contact details will be accessible to others though - I think it's just to add a link to you if you so wish.
Did the birds come back, Jan? We had some nesting in our allotment shed two years ago - a perfect excuse not to do too much hard digging!
