Here's the round table at the Algonquin Hotel in New York. You see, I'm getting ready for my writing trip to America (I know, I know, it's MONTHS away). Best possible research - where do writers' drink?.
When I was a tourist in NY a couple of years back I eventually screwed up the courage to enter this rather intimidating shrine. To my surprise the staff were extremely welcoming and not at all stuffy. I guess they get loads of tourists like me. You could almost hear the ghosts laughing and arguing with each other. The whole thing felt pretty close to a religious experience and was one of the highlights of my trip.
I can understand that, Pundy. And I like the fact the staff were welcoming - and as they should be, you are a writer too! And yes, Nik, I AM EXCITED. My watering hole is actually a coffee shop - Cafe Divine, and Viv there puts hearts on top of our cappucinos in chocolate so all is fairly good in my world!
Well, the shed of course, but after that The Portland Arms (pub at the end of the road) and the Lower Red Lion, arguably the finest real ale pub in St Albans (the world?).

Blimey - all a bit more glam than my watering hole. Maybe if I had a cooler place to drink my writing would improve...
And hey, I think you're allowed to be excited about your upcoming trans-Atlantic jaunt. So there!

I'm sure the Portland Arms will be on the literary list soon, Alex. Do they play scrabble there?
