How to do it well...

This blog, Advanced Style just makes me happy every morning.

As it says, it is the best "PROOF FROM THE WIZENED AND SILVER-HAIRED SET THAT PERSONAL STYLE ADVANCES WITH AGE."

My next novel, Getting the Picture is all about sex and intrigue in an old people's home. I based it on something a woman asked me once- 'Do you think we ever get too old to cry over love?'

Nope. Or I hope not, at least.

And I don't think we ever get too old to dress well either. What I love most about the photographs on the Advanced Style blog is that what comes across is not vanity, or shallowness, but a deep important love of life itself. A generosity, if you like.

This is a comfort. My partner and I often wonder when our fashion sense (what little we have!) will depart. At what age do you suddenly start sliding into the dark corners of department stores buying clothes that your mother or grandmother are wearing. Nice to think it's not an inevitable decline!

Never! Not according to this blog anyhow. You get brighter and brighter.

Ooh, Sarah - your new book! That's so exciting. I see it's available on Amazon March 2010 . . . highly anticipated. Do you remember the conversation we had on the train back from Oxford over a year ago? It seemed then that this was just a flickering star in another galaxy (one brimming with black holes) . . . so I'm so glad to see it got brighter and brighter and made it into our own Milky Way. I bet it's going to dazzle us!

Hope to see you at LL soon so we can finally have that coffee!!
