A few years ago, after lots and lots of serious testing, I found my perfect ever notebook. Ladies and gentleman, meet the Marbella ....
It's exactly the right size, it has a soft cover so feels nice, the pages are ruled just to the right width, it has not one but TWO ribbon bookmarks and a wide margin. What's not to like?
Even better I could buy it from Rymans, changing the colour when I was feeling daring. But then suddenly, Rymans stopped stocking it. No one could tell me anything. I tried other makes but they were all too hard, they just didn't feel as friendly. So I sulked for a bit.
But then today I went searching and guess what I found - my notebook has its own website. Good times. A new notebook is hopefully on its way to me right now.
And this is from the woman who used to insist strange writing rituals were a waste of time. And that I could write anywhere, on anything.
Be warned though, that website is wicked. I'm already thinking of asking Father Christmas for this, and I haven't even clicked on to the pen section yet.
So what do you write on? Send pictures. This blog likes its stationery porn.

Two ribbon page markers? That's amazing. When I stumbled across the perfect journal, I was so impressed that I bought several and they are lined up in my under-bed drawer waiting to be released. I must say, though, that whilst I am smug about my hoard of delightful stationery, it's perhaps not exciting as the chase of shopping for a new one. And now I'm aware that each only has one ribbon and I feel all inadequate. I sense a shopping trip coming on .....
At the moment I'm still at your stage one: I'll write on anything as long as I have something to write on. Last month, though, I discovered weekly planners at Barnes & Noble. They have half a dozen lines for each day, but instead of times of appointments and parties I write in a "poetic thought" every night. This is as close as I'll ever get to journaling consistently.
They come in loads of styles and patterns, but I chose this one: http://search.barnesandnoble.com/2010-Weekly-Planner-5x8-Blue-Shield-Engagement-Calendar/Silver-Lining/e/9780641977176/?itm=6 and I love it.
I know, Kathryn. TWO. But don't feel inadequate (... athough TWO!)
Merriam, that's just beautiful - I love the idea of a daily poetic thought. Keep wondering if it leaks into your dreams.
Looks gorgeous...
It's the soft cover that does it, Pam. Strokeable.
Stationary porn - I can't get enough of it.
I've yet to settle on my perfect journal, although recently I've come to realise that I prefer blank to lined pages. I like the freedom to wander and waver and squeeze lines tight or loose.
I'm using a Rhodia ePure at the moment and it's lovely, thick and smooth and black!
But I've just ordered some Clairefontaine agebags in black and green and red - I've only ever had them in brown before and I want to see if the colour affects the content :)
