Some brilliant news to come back to - my friend, Catherine Smith, is on the Forward Prize Shortlist for her stunning collection Lip, and now I've only got until October to learn how to type with all fingers crossed for her.
Thats great news. Good luck to her. Stunning cover indeed. I remember having a conversation with Catherine in her writing class about book covers and how writers often have little say in the matter. Even if she didn't choose this one she's done alright.
Thanks very much Sarah, Tania and Jem. The book cover is a photo of my friend Rachel's son's Milo's girlfriend Sidonie (anylone lost yet?!) Isn't she lovely? I wanted a cover with a strong, young face, not made-up or glam, with a fabulous mouth, just beautiful on its own terms. Rob MacDonald took the photo and the red spidery bits are bits of the text projected via....er...magic, I think. Happy writing, everybody!
You know Catherine too? Small world... It's a fantastic book, isn't it? We're reading together in Teddington in September - I'm really looking forward to it.

Isn't it beautiful? And what's inside is even better!
