Being Alive

"There is a Latin saying: Ars longa, vita brevis. Art is long, life is short. But the true and beautiful thing is that nothing lasts. Everything changes and passes. The creative process is just that. Not a means to an end, but a continuing engagement with being alive.

Breathe in, and begin"

Kim Addonizio, from Ordinary Genius.

That's a great quote Sarah. I try to check in with myself every so often, and ask myself why I write. I think it's important to make sure I know why, it makes the process a little keener. My usual answer is that living is not enough in itself. I need to write to catch the passing of life, to process it and pin it to the page. That seems to meet up pretty well with your quote.

I love the new look to your blog by the way - especially the way you are peeking at us from next to that stone pineapple!

Love it. And it's true.

Like the new look as well by the way.

My pleasure, Megan! And yes, Jem, I like the idea of catching 'the passing of life, to process it and pin it to the page' - like butterfly catching of old. I can imagine you with a net! And thanks to you and Nik for liking the blog look - I'm about to do a post about it later today.
