I want it ... I want it ... I want it ... I NEED it ....

I was walking round the supermarket yesterday, list in hand, when I caught sight of her.

Mocking me. Luring me. Smiling just for me.

I carried on, putting green peppers, celery, lettuce, in my basket. Throwing them a little too hard against the wire, pretending I wasn't angry with them for not being her.

She was all I could think about.

The healthy bacteria yoghurt drink things went in next. Then the herbal teas. I clutched my list harder.

I could enjoy myself without her. I could. Really, I could.

I was making excuses not to go down the aisle where I knew she'd be waiting. I hadn't expected her to come for weeks, thought I'd have time to prepare myself.

And then, all self-control disappeared.

Look who I took home with me...

I am very very happy.

Sarah - first time comment from me. I just felt I had to warn you. I tried a Nigella tip for doing Xmas roasties in a disposable foil tray which she recommended for less washing up. Disaster, the trays are not strong enough - hot fat (goose, natch) on floor, potatoes in dog. DO NOT TRUST NIGELLA.

Regards, Penny (from your writing group, not anonymous, I just haven't worked out how to do this blog account thing properly yet. Apologies this comment has naff all to do with writing and no literary merit....

The ingredients for Nigella's recipes are always in the same place on the shelf of her pantry. When we move to our new house, I am looking forward to having this magical thing called a pantry.
Also, she looks as if she has lost weight - as my role model (and excuse for eating chocolate) this of deep concern to me.

Aaaaahh...we *heart* Nigella in our house. In fact, we'd *heart* her even more if she would come and cook in our house but alas that isn't included in the price of her cookbooks! I know for a fact that I am missing some magical ingredient as she manages to stay mostly slim whereas when I eat food made from her recipes, I gain weight! How come the calories fall out of her food during the cooking process? Oh I do apologise, I seem to have left a short story instead of just a comment!

I love her food porn programmes (especially the bit at the end when she nips down to stuff her face) but not over the moon about her books. And certainly don't ever try her strange jam in the oven recipe which just produces raspberry slop.

Did you see her programme in the Who Do You Think You Are? series? She didn't come across as much of a laugh.

Am I being too harsh?

Alex - I thought my husband had just become very interested in cooking. Mind you, I did think it strange that he never put any of it into practice ....

Where Nigella is concerned "Bakewell Tart" is both a recipe and a cooking instruction.

Gosh, Nigella is dividing the critics. We are testing the butternut squash soup recipe as I type so I expect NL is sitting in her kitchen (with her pantry shelf polished nicely, Kathryn)biting her nails for the official verdict.

Phew, Nigella can breathe again. the soup was DELICIOUS. I'm just not going to be swayed into trying the potatoes and the jam.

I went off Nigella when she pushed past me and my kids at a book event.
