Floating like a butterfly

This quote from Muhammad Ali has been making me smile all day.... “I wish people would love everybody else the way they love me. It would be a better world.”

So much so that I went to look up some of his other quotes. How about:

"A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life."

Or:

"I hated every minute of training, but I said, ''Don't quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.''

Or:

"Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth. "

But it's this one I love the most. I'm not sure why, or if I even understand it, but I just know muttering it to myself every time I'm frightened is going to change my life:

"Superman don't need no seat belt."

See. It works already. Cor, I have a party coming up next week that I was dreading. But hold on to your hats, people, Superman is going to be floating through. Don't need no seat belt either.

(Although in the interests of health and safety, and before any one writes in, I will point out that I do clunk-click every trip, just not when I'm travelling by cape ....)

I really like "A man who views the world the same at fifty as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life." That makes so much sense! Thanks for these. And careful going belt-less :)

I'm not sure Tania... if you can keep the youthful exciting freshness in your view of the world, if you can look at the world with wonder, the wonder of seeing it always new, then that is not something wasted.

Of course, the older we get the more we bring so much more baggage to our view of what is and can be. That's not a bad thing, not always, but trying to keep that sense of wonder... that takes something special and losing that is such a loss.

Oh to be twenty and looking at things new again.

But you can still look at things new - that's what we're doing as writers every day. It's just that you see different things in them. That's why I like that quote so much. When I was twenty, I don't think I thought about time passing, for instance, very much at all. Not to be morbid, but it adds so much to my view of everything now. Also I hope that I'm a little bit more aware of how everything fits together. In my twenties, I only really had time for my journey. Or at least that was what was interesting for me.

Not that I'm quite fifty yet, I'll hasten to say....!!!!
